Yes, it's true. Water does help you lose weight!
How? The kidneys need water to do their job. If they are water-deprived, the liver's job is to then pick up the slack, in addition to its own job, which is to convert fat into energy*. If your liver is trying to pick up the slack for your kidneys, it cannot work as hard to convert fat into energy. Therefore, the excess fat is stored!
When you start to increase your water intake, it can be very discouraging due to the fact that you constantly have to pee. One may think to themselves, "I'm just peeing out all the water I put in, so what's the point?" This statement is only half true. Yes, you are peeing out most, if not all, of the water you're drinking, but you're also peeing out the water that's been stored in your body for years in an attempt to keep your kidneys functioning properly. But your kidneys aren't the only things that need water to function properly! Your muscles need it too! If your muscles aren't working properly, your heart has to work overtime, which is not good.
By giving your body lots of water, you are signalling to it that it no longer needs to hold onto all that water, so it gets rid of it. This water can come from everywhere. Your thighs, arms, stomach, and face to name a few. Do you see where I'm going with this? You could potentially be getting slimmer, just by drinking more water! How awesome is that? And all it costs you is a couple extra bucks and a few more trips to the bathroom. ;)
As an added bonus, if you have lots of pimples and blemishes on your face, the extra water will help flush out the bad stuff and give you clearer skin! Isn't that nice? :)
In short, increasing your water intake is one of the easiest things you can do to help yourself lose weight and just all around look and feel better! And if you don't like the taste of water, try squeezing a bit of lemon, lime, or orange juice into it.
Until next time,
-Kristin ♥

*This process is called METABOLISM, which is defined as "The process by which a substance is handled in the body." There are many types of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one most commonly referred to is the metabolism of fat.
